# Gemini

**Gemini is Google's AI assistant.** It powers AI answers in Search and is built into Workspace (Docs, Gmail) and Android. Like [Claude](/glossary#claude), it is a [generative AI](/glossary#generative-ai) tool you chat with.

Its edge is reach: if your work lives in Google's tools, Gemini is right there. It also handles text, images, audio, and video together. The Academy teaches Claude, but it is worth knowing where each tool shines.

## At work

If your company runs on Google Workspace, Gemini can draft in Docs and Gmail without leaving them. Handy for quick, in-place help.

## Often confused with

Bard, its old name. Google renamed Bard to Gemini in 2024. Gemini is also both the assistant and the model family behind it.
