# Claude Design

> A tool for making things you can see (prototypes, slides, one-pagers, pages) by describing them in a chat and refining the result on a canvas beside it.

**Claude Design lets you create designs by having a conversation.** You describe what you want, Claude builds a first version on a **canvas** next to the chat, and you refine it from there. What lands is a **live, clickable design**, not a flat picture, so you can test it, then export it or hand it to a developer to build.

You refine three ways: **chat** for big structural moves, **inline comments** for a single element, and **direct edits** for a quick nudge. Set up a **design system** once and every project uses your brand's colours, type, and components by default.

It is powered by **Claude Opus 4.7** and runs at claude.ai/design and in the desktop app, on paid plans. When a design is ready to become real software, it hands off to **[Claude Code](/glossary#claude-code)**, which continues from the actual design rather than a screenshot.

## Often confused with

An artifact. An [artifact](/glossary#artifact) is a quick one-off visual inside a normal chat; Claude Design is a dedicated space for real design work you refine on a canvas and export.
